Damongo Water Project to commence soon - Abu Jinapor assures again

The Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency and minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has assured yet again that construction works on the Damongo Water Project will commence soon.


He gave the assurance at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High and Technical School at a short durbar to present a Toyota Hilux Pick-up vehicle to the school on Monday, August 7, 2023.


According to him, the contract has been awarded for work to begin to bring finality to the age-old Damongo Water problem.


He disclosed that pipes and other logistics meant for the full take off of the project are been conveyed to the Damongo Water Works office.


"Today, as we speak, one of our major problems in Damongo is water and I'm very happy to announce to you that the water situation, I can now confidently say that we have crossed the bridge because the contract is been awarded."


"The contractor is been mobilised and those of you who observe closely, you will see that pipes are been transported to the water headquarters now and work is beginning and by the grace of God, the water problem will be resolved", he asserted.

For many years, Damongo which serves as the administrative capital for the Savannah Region has been grappling with water crisis.


The situation is always dire when off season sets in but not much has been done to bring the perennial water crisis to a close.


On July 28, 2020, President Akufo Addo cut sod for the construction of the Damongo Water Supply Project to the tune of $49m but three years on, the project is yet to commence after several assurances by government appointees in the region.
