It wasn't my intention to publicly display my ballot - Nana Kwame

Savannah Region Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Kwame Aboagye has denounced claims that he deliberately displayed his ballot after voting at the party's susper delegates conference.

Speaking in an interview on Ashumaa Savannah on Kasha Fm in Damongo on Monday August 28, 2023, Mr. Aboagye explained that the ballot was accidentally displayed after attempting to rub his finger on his hair to cleanse some ink.

This he said infuriated agents of the flag bearer hopefuls who argued that the act is against the party's code of conduct for the elections.

"It was not my intention to display my ballot after casting. It was accidentally displayed when I tried rubbing my finger on my hair in an attempt to clean some ink on it which was misconstrued to be deliberate", he explained.

According to him, the profusely protesting assigns of the presidential candidate aspirants of the party demanded that his vote be declared null and void.

The demand by the agents of the aspirants he explained quickly sparked a confusion but was foiled by the police who were present at the venue.

"During the altercation, the Regional *Chairman* of the Electoral Commission stepped in to explain that the incident violates the conduct of elections and as such, the ballot should be nullified".

"After the incident, I was invited to the Regional police station where I wrote my statement and was bailed by our Regional chairman".

He refuted widespread assertions that he was coerced into voting for Vice President, Dr. Mahamuud Bawumia against his will for which reason, he blatantly displayed his ballot for evidence of his support.

Nana Kwame also accused some unnamed members of the party of trying to incite him against the vice president for some unexplained reasons.

He revealed that he had to abandon his political Godfather, Dr. Apraku who was in the race for the Vice President but people were still accusing him of being against his candidature.

He urged members of the party to close their ranks as to be able to break the 8 to consolidate the gains made by the Akufo led government.

Nana Kwame Aboagye, the Savannah Regional Organiser of the NPP was arrested by the police for displaying his ballot at the Saturday's special delegates conference of the party.
