The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Yagbonwura Bikunutu Soale Jewu I has admonished candidates of both the BECE and WASSCE to stay away from harmful drugs that could affect their future.
The clarion call was made on behalf of the Yagbonwura by the paramount chief for the Kusawgu Traditional Area, Kusawgu-Wura Alhassan Soale Bonyanso II at a brief ceremony to encourage the candidates in the Savannah Region who are sitting for this year’s examination.
The ceremony was held at the Assembly Hall of the Damongo Senior High School on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
In an address, Kilibi-Wura Amidu, secretary to the Kusawgu-Wura said drugs have long-term negative effects on the user.
"We are begging you in the name of God, avoid drugs. It is the drugs that will lead you to other immoral behaviours", he appealed.
He lamented that the results of both the BECE and WASSCE in the Savannah Region over the years have been non commendable and encouraged the candidates to change the narrative.
He also cautioned them to stay away from social media content that have the tendency to prevent them from becoming productive leaders in the future.
"On your social media platforms, keep to educational sectors, limit yourselves to what will give you more knowledge. So avoid unnecessary stuff on social media".
He expressed the readiness and commitment of the Yagbonwura to ensure that education becomes the anchor on which development thrives in the region.
He concluded by wishing them well, with the hope that they will make themselves, their families and Savannah Region proud when the results are released.
