The Municipal Health Director for West Gonja, Gertrude Yentumi has bemoaned the refusal of postings to facilities outside the Damongo the Municipal capital by health workers.
The phenomenon according to her is affecting the Directorate's efforts and target of ensuring universal health care in the Municipality.
The director made the comments whiles addressing staff and stakeholders at the 2023 mid-year performance review of the Directorate held on Aug 16 in Damongo.
The review was to assess the performance for the first half of the year in relation to targets and to plan ways to better its performance for the second half of the year.
Getrude Yentumi noted that the first half of the year was characterised by a lot of activities from all levels of the health system which overwhelmed health staff.
"Notable among them is Covid-19 vaccinations. This made health staff overwhelmed and very stressed but with a deep sense of satisfaction."
"This is because it has actually taken great sacrifice and commitment by the health personnel, policy makers and stakeholders to sail through the first half of the year".
She emphasised that despite difficulties and challenges faced, the Municipal Health Directorate recorded some achievements including reduction in anaemia among pregnant women, increase in MR2 from 31% in 2022 to 40% in 2023 amongst others.
She enumerated refusal of postings to facilities outside Damongo, inadequate number of some health professionals specifically Community Health Nurses, lack of basic equipment in some CHIPs compounds among others as some challenges facing the Service in the Municipality.
She however expressed appreciation to the management of the Municipal Health Directorate and all hard-working health staff and partners who contributed to the achievements recorded in the first half of 2023.
