The Savannah Regional Physical Education (PE) coordinator, Mark Amadu Urina, on Thursday August 31 2023, told Damongo based KASHA 99.5 FM that, the just ended Savannah Region under 16 Basic schools sports festival in Bole was a success and that the region will be ready to compete with the necessary resources.
In an exclusive interview on KASHA afternoon sports with Mudasiru Afari Techi, he mentioned that the patronage of the Bole tournament was equivalent to the crowd of an English premiere league game adding that though there were few disagreements by some fans and team coaches resulting in few push and pulls amongst fans, no casualty was recorded.
He assured that with more resources, the Savannah Region could compete well with any region in Ghana.
"The winners of the Bole tournament will represent the Savannah Region in the inter regional games, there were push and pulls amongst fans and certain coaches, which was normal due to the spectators' strong passion for football, but there wasn't any casualty or exchange of blows."
He continued that "a best player or best Goalkeeper or Goalking winner could miss out on being selected due to the criteria agreed upon earlier by stakeholders, and that any player in a winning team qualifiers automatically as a regional player, whether he or she was instrumental in their team performance or not."
He concluded by confirming that Gbun D/A JHS in North East and Bole will represent the Savannah Region in soccer for girls and boys respectively during the inter regional competition.
A licensed coach or high technical men and women will be assigned to the regional teams to partiner their original coaches to prepare them and ensure they perform well in the CAF inter regional 2nd Edition.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Region reached the quarter finals stage in Kumasi last year, during the CAF maiden basic inter regional competition, with Central Gonja and East Gonja representing the Savannah Region in soccer boys and girls.
